Affection Surf
By Will Forrest
I want to surf your affection,
Still waters disguise menacing undercurrents, purer billows broadcast their boisterousness in beauty,
and yours crashes over me,
Like waves numbing chilled skin, you froze my desire and drew me to dependency,
Killing me at your low tide, like a stranded creature,
I had no choice but to drown in your love.
I want to burn in your blaze,
Ignite my soul and scorch the world with my devotion,
My lungs fill with smoke; suffocation’s all the same, Ocean or fire I choke,
But I don’t mind; I would do anything to scar the world like it scarred like you,
So burn my forest of dried dreams and memories,
Burn away who I was before you,
And consume me with your brilliance.
I want to lay in your laughter,
Light your eyes and throw back your head,
I’ll catch you no matter how hard you fall,
Because gravity is the strongest force of all,
I’ll be there too, spotting constellations while looking at you,
Bending time and space for the smile on your face,
I don’t care that stars fade,
Like the precious impermanence of your gaze,
The wilting flower’s memory sows its successor.
After all, to love and to lose is simply just to love,
But if I could choose, I would always lose myself in you,
Blissfully unconscious of our coming doom,
I wouldn’t care if I knew,
I’d love you to the bitter-sweet end,
Dying in your bliss; smiling in our tomb.
